How to work a mesh nebulizer

    1. Wash your hands

Use soap and water to prevent germs from getting into the medicine or your lungs.

    2. Set up the nebulizer

    • Place the machine (compressor) on a flat surface.

    • Plug it in.

    • Connect one end of the tubing to the machine.

    3. Add the medicine

    • Open the medicine cup.

    • Pour in the prescribed medication (and saline if instructed).

    • Close the cup tightly so it doesn’t leak.

    4. Attach mouthpiece or mask

    • Connect the medicine cup to the mouthpiece or face mask.

    • Attach the tubing to the bottom of the medicine cup.

    5. Sit upright and turn it on

    • Sit up straight (best airflow).

    • Turn on the machine—you should see a fine mist.

    6. Breathe the medicine

    • Mouthpiece: Place it between your teeth, seal lips around it, breathe slowly and deeply through your mouth.

    • Mask: Place it snugly over nose and mouth; breathe normally.

    • Try to take slow breaths and occasionally hold your breath for 2–3 seconds if comfortable.

    7. Continue until finished

    • Treatment usually takes 5–15 minutes.

    • It’s done when the mist stops or sputters.

    8. Turn off and clean

    • Turn off the machine and unplug it.

    • Rinse the medicine cup and mouthpiece/mask with warm water.

    • Let parts air dry.

    • At least once daily, wash with mild soap (or disinfect as instructed by your provider)

Is it safe to use NEBULIZER

Yes—nebulizers are generally safe when used as prescribed and kept clean. They’re commonly used for asthma, COPD, bronchitis, and other breathing conditions in adults, children, and infants.

    When Nebulizers Are Safe

    • You’re using prescribed medication at the correct dose

    • The equipment is cleaned and dried properly

    • You’re following the correct technique (mask/mouthpiece fitted well)
